Little known and even less widespread, the use of CBD for pets is nevertheless a very promising alternative method. Didn't know you could give cannabidiol to your four-legged friends? Well, I'll prove it to you in this article, which also tells you how to choose a CBD oil for your pets.

When can you give your pet CBD oil?
Let's start with a word of caution: although CBD appears to be safe for your pet, we recommend that you always seek veterinary advice first. You can then administer cannabidiol to your furry friend, particularly as a complement to other veterinary treatment prescribed by a specialist.
Whether in humans or animals, cannabidiol produces relaxing, anti-stress and pain-relieving effects. CBD oil supplementation is therefore recommended to relieve both transient and chronic stress and anxiety in animals. In fact, these are the uses most frequently recommended for animals.
As cannabidiol is also studied for its anti-inflammatory and appetite-stimulating effects, we know that some veterinarians like to suggest taking the molecule as an adjunct to heavier treatment (against cancer, for example). Finally, CBD is currently at the heart of studies demonstrating its beneficial effects on epileptic seizures.
How to choose your pet's CBD oil?
In reality, choosing the right CBD oil for your pet is easier than you might think. Many brands have developed a range specially designed for animals, especially dogs and cats. Dosed according to their needs and flavored with meat or fish, for example, the products are perfect for animal administration.
Choose an oil extracted from organic hemp
Whether for personal consumption or for your pet, we can't recommend enough that you always opt for oil extracted from organic hemp. Indeed, this method of cultivation - to which I have already dedicated an article on this blog - limits the use of pesticides and other chemicals. The plant used to make the oil is therefore healthier.
Choose a low concentration of CBD
Animal organisms are much more fragile and sensitive than human ones. What's more, our companions can't express themselves in words, so we strongly advise you to opt for low concentrations of CBD(5% or 10% oil) to avoid overdosing the animal. Of course, an overdose is impossible, but your companion could be affected by a few side-effects that could cause some discomfort.
Offer a dose based on your pet's weight
Just as you dose your CBD oil according to your symptoms, but also your build, you'll need to do the same for your pet. I recommend administering CBD as follows:
|
Normal |
Medium |
Fort |
Dogs from 1 to 5 kg |
25 mg CBD |
50 mg CBD |
100 mg CBD |
Dogs from 5 to 20 kg |
50 mg CBD |
100 mg CBD |
250 mg CBD |
Dogs from 20 to 45 kg |
100 mg CBD |
150 mg CBD |
550 mg CBD |
Cats |
25 mg CBD |
50 mg CBD |
100 mg CBD |
If you've just given your pet CBD oil, but it doesn't seem to be reacting, remember that the effects take about 1-2 hours to kick in.
Which CBD oil should you choose for your pet?
Choosing a CBD oil for your pet can be as difficult as choosing one for your personal consumption. Fortunately, there are products specially designed for pets.
Very similar to CBD oils for humans, those for animals are also made from a neutral vegetable oil. These are generally broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD oils available in light concentrations. For example, on our online store, we offer oils for animals in 5% or 10% CBD. The major difference between these CBD oils lies in the added flavoring. To make it easier for animals to ingest the oil, they have been flavored with either meat for dogs or fish for cats.
Finally, the real choice of product lies in the right concentration, for which you can refer to the table we've drawn up in the section above.
