What makes a CBD flower good?

It's not just the CBD content that determines the quality of a CBD hemp flower.

Through research and contact with the best European hemp growers, Mama Kana has gathered valuable information about hemp. Finally, in the flowers we select, it's not so much the level of CBD that makes a flower good, but thecombination of different elements.

Cannabigerol (CBG)

Cannabinoids include around a hundred chemical substances studied for their potential therapeutic effects. Lanabigerol (CBG) is one of them.. Although cannabigerol is a minority constituent of hemp, it is nonetheless central to the plant. Indeed, during hemp flowering, most of the CBG is converted into tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD).

Although CBD (cannabidiol) is a major constituent of hemp flowers, is just one cannabinoid among many. While CBD is renowned for its relaxing potential, hemp actually contains other substances that could have an effect on the body. Studies are still underway to unlock the secrets of cannabinoids.

Contrary to what is often claimed, no hemp flower with a THC content of less than 0.2% can have a CBD content exceeding 10%.

It is technically impossible to obtain a CBD content of over 10%, while maintaining a THC content of less than 0.2%. However, French and European legislation requires us to offer for sale only flowers with a THC content of less than 0.2%.

In fact, our best CBD flowers have a CBD content of less than 8%, while our CBD resins contain around 10% CBD. It is possible to artificially increase this level using pure CBD crystals, but this process is not recommended and we prefer to offer only natural CBD flowers.

The entourage effect

In addition to the presence of cannabinoids, CBD flowers are also rich in terpenes and terpenoids, classes of odoriferous hydrocarbons. These are the source of hemp's delicate and varied fragrances, which can give off fruity, floral, spicy or undergrowth aromas. These substances interact with each other, and it's their balance that determines the potential of a CBD flower.

The combination of various cannabinoids, terpenes and terpenoids gives rise to a variety of interactions and synergies, a phenomenon known as the entourage effect . So, like a fine wine, CBD flowers can give off different layers of aroma. There are more than a hundred terpenes, so hemp's aromatic and fragrant possibilities tend towards the infinite.

Ultimately, the quality of a CBD flower is judged by its appearance: the flower must be healthy, fluffy and show shades of color. However, it is the alliance, interaction and synergies between the various cannabinoids, terpenes and terpenoids that are responsible for the aroma, fragrance and potential therapeutic effects of CBD flowers.
