Would you like to try CBD, but the question of taste is holding you back? It's normal to wonder what it will taste like in your mouth. This way, Mama will enlighten you and give you some sound advice for a top-notch experience!

To remember

  • You can assume that the taste of CBD is vegetal, earthy and bitter.
  • This is due to the presence of terpenes and cannabinoids, the main ingredients responsible for natural aromas.
  • There are a few tricks to get used to the particular taste of CBD.

The taste of CBD: Natural

If the question about the taste of CBD is answered in one word, that's the first word that comes to mind!

Directly related to hemp

CBD is a molecule derived from the hemp plant, and this is reflected in its taste. What you'll feel in the mouth could be described as vegetal notes, slightly bitter or even earthy flavors.

Some consumers evoke the scent of hay or woods. Others speak of aromatic plants and spicy flavors. Still others call up hazelnut or pine! Well, let's just say that the "nature" taste sums up all these trends. An all-encompassing fragrance of green, raw nature, a fragrance with character!

Cannabinoids and terpenes

As cannabidiol is extracted from hemp, it's only natural that there should be a gustatory link. The cannabis plant, whatever the variety, produces flowers which contain elements crucial to taste.

Trichomes, which can be described as sticky little vesicles, contain cannabinoids and terpenes. Terpenes represent the plant's natural aromas and tastes. They can provide a variety of flavors, such as :

  • earthy
  • musk
  • grasses
  • citrus
  • woodlands
  • pine
  • gasoline...

Want to know all about terpenes ? These aromatic compounds are fascinating, and also provide hemp plants with a means of defending themselves against heat or insects, for example. The terpenes listed are very numerous (between 100 and 200), so the odor and taste combinations are very vast...

Taste variations

Remember that it's the cannabinoids and terpenes, in their various combinations, that influence the taste profile of CBD. Beyond this "natural" taste, you may have noticed, or will soon notice, that the taste varies from product to product. There are several reasons for this.

  • The original hemp variety: each variety has its own aromatic or terpene profile. That's why you'll find a wide range of scents and flavors!
  • The extraction method also plays a role: full spectrum extraction, for example, preserves more cannabinoids, and therefore more taste. Conversely, an isolate will be more neutral.
  • The product base: depending on the type of product, the taste also varies. If you opt for a CBD e-liquid, it won't have the same flavors as a CBD flower for vaping. The same goes for a CBD oil you use in cosmetics, which may give off a hempy smell.

And if you're not a fan of hemp's distinctive taste, I've got you covered! You'll find naturally flavored products to make the experience more pleasant for your palate, and customizable, without skimping on quality!

How do you enjoy the taste of CBD?

If you're just starting out, you can make the experience easier by gradually taming the particular taste of CBD. In any case, you don't need to be an expert, here are a few tips from Mama.

Try mild-tasting products first, i.e. CBD e-liquid flavored with fruit or floral scents.

Take your time. While the taste of hemp may be disconcerting at first, it's highly likely that you'll come to appreciate it over time.

Don't forget to vary: try other varieties, resinous, sweet, woody, spicy and so on. You'll find your favorite taste profile!

Finally, remember to taste small quantities when you're about to try out a new product, to get used to the taste (and effects, for that matter).

Are you ready? You'll find everything you need in Mama's shop! Flowers, resins, oils, e-liquids, CBD vape-pens...
