For many, Christmas cookies are a must-have during the holiday season. Want to try something different this year? Why not try CBD Christmas cookies? Mama shares her recipe and tips for making the perfect CBD cookies for the holidays.
Reminder about cooking with CBD
Before giving you my recipe for CBD Christmas cookies, it's important to remember a few basics. It's very easy to incorporate CBD into a recipe, especially in the form of oil or flowers. As for flowers, depending on the variety, they can bring different flavors, adding variety to the experience.
However, it is important to note that CBD is hydrophobic, meaning it does not mix well with water. On the other hand, it is lipophilic, meaning it mixes well with fats. This makes it ideal for use in cookie dough.
Finally, it is important to note that hemp flowers contain little CBD in their natural state. They must undergo a decarboxylation process to get the most out of the product. Don't panic if this word sounds scary—it's actually a very simple process. To decarboxylate your flowers, simply bake them in the oven at 130°C for about 20 minutes.
But don't worry, for my cookie recipe, there's no need to decarboxylate them. This will happen naturally during baking.
The ingredients needed for CBD cookies
For this shortbread recipe, I chose Orange Bud because I find its aromas ideal for this festive season. Of course, you can choose another variety according to your tastes.
Here are the ingredients you will need to make my CBD Christmas cookies:
● 200 grams of flour;
● 5 grams ofOrange Bud (or any other variety of your choice);
● 1 packet of yeast;
● 100 grams of sugar;
● 2 eggs;
● 150 grams of butter;
● 100 grams of almond powder.
I chose a recipe with ingredients that you can easily find. Of course, feel free to adapt it to suit your preferences or allergies, for example.
Steps for making CBD cookies
I will now explain how to proceed step by step. As I mentioned, the decarboxylation of CBD flowers will take place during cooking. However, to get the most out of the product, I recommend baking them in the oven for 5 minutes at 150°C (you can put them in a small container). This will make them easier to crumble when the time comes.
Now let's move on to the actual preparation:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and sugar. Then add the two egg yolks (set aside the whites for later in the recipe).
- At the same time, soften the butter and add the 5 grams of CBD flowers (crumbling them as much as possible).
- Add this mixture (butter/CBD) to your preparation and mix everything together.
- Add the almond powder and knead (you should obtain a smooth dough).
- let the dough rest for a few minutes;
- Sprinkle a little flour on your work surface and roll out your dough with a rolling pin.
- Using a knife or cookie cutter, cut out the shapes for your cookies.
- Place your cookies on a baking sheet and put them on your baking tray.
- Using a pastry brush, spread the egg whites onto your cookies.
- When baking, I recommend heating moderately (cannabinoids don't particularly like heat). I therefore recommend baking your cookies for 10 to 20 minutes (depending on whether you prefer them soft or harder) at 175°C. Bear in mind that they will harden slightly during the cooling phase.
There you go, now you can enjoy and/or give homemade cookies in addition to our CBD Christmas gift sets.
Mama's advice
If you feel like it, you can of course decorate your cookies with icing, for example. Once your cookies are ready, store them in an airtight container or resealable bag. Remember to label them clearly to prevent children or pregnant women, for example, from accidentally eating them.
I recommend enjoying them quickly so that they retain all their benefits, and why not accompany them with a glass of CBD mulled wine.
Remember, just because they're cookies doesn't mean you should eat too many. Stick to the recommended servings. So get baking and happy holidays!
